When you think of summer, you don't always think sick. Well that's what Ben is, sick. His "allergies" turned into a full blown summer cold. We went down to the Pleasanton clinic yesterday to have him checked out. He had woken up coughing and congested and coughed through most of his vest session which he rarely does. However, when we got there, he was full of energy bouncing off the walls and didn't cough once! His lungs and ears are clear so they told us to just ride it out for now but if his cough isn't better by Thursday or Friday, they'll put him on a 10-day course of Bactrim.
We are so thankful that this is nothing more serious and is pretty much Ben's first official cold. We have been so blessed with his health so far. I am giving him Benedryl and Tylenol to help keep the symptoms away but all in all he's our happy little guy.
I did talk to our NP more about a possible hospital stay. If he does culture the P word again at the end of July, a hospital stay it is. They want to be aggressive and get it gone before it has time to settle even more into his lungs. While we are very thankful for an amazing team of doctors, a hospital stay scares the crap out of me. However, I'm not going to worry about it until we are there. They also said that they will want to start us on Pulmozyme. It will be administered once a day, probably in the morning during the time in which he is using his vest. I am slightly bummed but knew it was only a matter of time before he was started on a regular inhaled med.
We are now down at my parents home in Carmel. We had planned on leaving for Carmel today but since Pleasanton is half way home, we decided to just head down after our clinic visit. Ryan's sales territory reaches all the way down here so he needed to come down to meet some of the endodontists. Ben and I decided to tag along! We went to the park today and will be going to the Aquarium tomorrow. It's always nice to escape the heat for a bit and to enjoy some time with my parents. We were supposed to go with Ryan to Fresno for a couple days but have postponed the trip until August. We were hoping to meet Ryan's cousin, his wife and their daughter Avery. Avery is just two weeks younger then Ben and they have never met. So, we are bummed we don't get to see them but look forward to a visit in August.
